Getting Your Head On Straight
When your neck is not right, it is difficult for the rest of the body to function correctly. All the nerves that control activities in muscles and organs have to first pass through the neck. Our observation over the years has been that patients who are the sickest, having multiple health problems, almost always have lost the natural contour of the neck. Evaluation of the neck may include palpation, range of motion, neurological and orthopedic tests, reflexes, posture, X-ray, surface EMG, and thermography.
Things causing the neck to lose its natural shape and function:
- Birth trauma (especially forceps or vacuum extraction)
- Hits on the head
- Whiplash injuries
- Sports injuries
- Falls (from playground equipment)
- Hours at the computer or reading with neck tilted forward.
Symptoms from Neck Dysfunction
- Neck pain and stiffness
- Headaches, Migraine
- Dizziness
- Shoulder and arm pain or numbess
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- TMJ (Temporomandibular Problems)
- Many other symptoms of head and face.
